Tom Rawlings

Tom Rawlings is the founder of Home Grown Leadership. He and his wife, Penny have been married for over 35 years and have 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren. They currently live in Greensboro, NC. Tom started Home Grown Leadership after many years of serving in churches. He has been employed as both a Music Minister and an Executive Pastor. The churches he has been involved with have been in different denominations and even non-denominational. They have been small and large. Each church has taught him something different.

Tom also has a background in leadership in the business arena as well. He started out on the phones in a call center and worked his way up to become the manager of a call center. It was during this time that he began to develop a sense of what it really took to have a leadership role.

It was in his role as an Executive Pastor that he really began to realize the need for leadership training in churches. As Tom contrasted the leadership he had experienced in the business world with the leadership he found in churches, he came to the realization that there is not enough training available for church leaders, and particularly pastors. As a business leader, he received ongoing training in how to become a better leader. Pastors, on the other hand, don’t receive this kind of ongoing training necessary to develop their knowledge of leadership skills.

Tom brings to the table a wealth of knowledge about practical leadership in the church. His knowledge of sound customer service principles is also invaluable to the growth process of churches. When combined, Tom communicates practical, solid ways to improve your leadership skills as well as sound principles for growing your church.
